it’s exciting when this happens and it seems valuable to try to compile some of these stories. first, because they are interesting, and second, for more pragmatic reasons: to help those interested see how some people spend their time doing things they believe in doing.

the interviews require commitment from the interviewees and they should be thanked for their time and their help - it's a cooperative process, which means that i ask them not only for their initial effort but for checks along the way. pat's interview was done over the phone in march, damian's by email in april, and jeff's in one quick week in june.
